GOLF NEWS
HLBC v Guards
We had a magnificent day on Saturday at the Berkshire. The weather was perfect; blue skies and no aircraft vapour trails and no hint of any aircraft landing at Heathrow. Fortunately our team was already forward mounted in “driving” distance of the Berkshire! The team included 6 serving officers and Piers Bishop at 44 was the oldest! The Guards team were a wee bit older than us; so with the theme of “youth v experience” we set off into the fray.
The young (and not so young) were grateful that they have opened up what used to be dense undergrowth under the trees and I (nearly) managed not to lose a ball! At lunch the match was halved and we then concentrated on doing the magnificent meal justice. My excuse for poor performance in the afternoon was that I had cream, ice cream and extra treacle with my treacle sponge! However, after an entertaining and competitive match in the afternoon both teams gathered in the club house to watch the final game finish; the match was still all square and regrettably, at the 17th experience won the day and we were unable to make it two wins in a row.
The golf and company was, as ever, great fun and hugely enjoyable. Thank you again for the cheque(s) and now I turn my eyes to the Lorettonians match which is on 2 Jun, not the advertised 5 May (a W Sussex diary conflict) and future fixtures will be early Jun, not early May.
